Saturday at the Olympic Oval

We went to the World Cup Speed Skating on Saturday at the Olympic Oval. It was so incredible. There were so many people there speaking so many different languages. We were there when two world records were accomplished and they were by Americans. One of the ladies, I think she was from the Netherlands she rounded the corner and fell and crashed into the padded wall. It was sad to see. It was simply amazing to know that in our backyard there are so many people from all over the world spending time in our little "scary" Kearns. I have a friend that teaches with me at Evergreen and she is a very typical "eastsider". She is terrified to even go west of State Street. I am not kidding. She had to get some supplies and had to go to West Valley and she asked another teacher to go with her because she was afraid that she would be robbed or worse killed. She is the dance teacher and there was a weekend competition at Kearns High and she comes running into my room and was so nervous about going there she had her girls bring their meals with them so that they wouldn't have to wander out in the Kearns neighborhood to go to a fast food restaurant. I told her she needed to get out more!!! She said well she had all these beautiful girls getting out of the cars and who knows what would happen. I just told her there are beatiful girls in Kearns too. All she had to say is that she worried about me all the time that if anything happened to me she would cry. I told her it is my neighborhood and I love the people and reminded her that at Evergreen we had Utah's most wanted. She really is a wonderful lady she just can't get the east side out of her nose. When we were sitting in the bleachers watching the races Bill told me to look at the person that was next to us. The last two pictures are the people we were sitting next to throughout the race and didn't even realize it until we were about to leave. So when we left we got to shake hands and say hi.

This picture was the winners of the women who took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place

One of the winners that made the World Record sorry it's not so good.

Guess Who!!!! (Elder Bednar and his wife)

We shook hands and I told him it was very nice to meet him in person. He said ya without seeing him in a white shirt and a tie. He was very kind along with his wife. What a neat experience to see them as normal people.
